Events and Eventful

We recently got an letter from a user that commented:

I don’t care about these events. I want to see my events, I’d like to turn them off and see only mine. I feel deluged by ads, which could be your model but I find off-putting.”

So I wanted to take a moment to explain something – the events on the EVENTS tab are not advertisements, they are a feed from a cool site called EVENTFUL which lists a wide range of public events across the nation. At the Eventful website you can keep tabs on events in your region, or search other cities and see what’s going on there. What we do is take the location tags of all these events and put them into your maps so its far easier to see what’s going on in places you happen to be exploring.

A common use is that you’re visiting a place you don’t often go – say on vacation at your grandparents, or at a hotel on business, and you want to quickly check on events near that location. And because a city might have dozens or hundreds of events, it’s nice to get a glimpse at whats NEARBY where you are, or maybe notice some event is near something else you were thinking of doing. Your EVENTS tab will reveal these things to you. (In an upcoming release we’ll make it easier to “check off” an event which will save the venue to your map of My Places, which is handy for getting directions, sharing, and so on. For now it’s just for exploration.)

Clicking on any event will take you to the Eventful website where you can get more information, or explore in other ways.  Enjoy Eventful on TripTrace!
