Finally, at SXSW today, I was able to demonstrate mapOmatic… it’s just like i imagined, and it’s really nice. I’m looking forward to y’all being able to try it.
Now, about SXSW. It would be an understatement to describe this places as a madhouse. I’m not sure what to make of it. For instance, i’m sitting next to a bunch of 20-somethings who have a group they call startup bus, where they get a bunch of buses, load them up with geeks, and hack together new products (conceive and build) on the drive to Austin. How do you thoughtfully create a product and garner some attention with that kind of thing going on all around you?
You know that phenomenon at airports where strangers congregate around a power outlet with their laptops radiating out along AC cords? It used to look like a modern-day equivalent of cave men hunkered around a fire. Now I sorta think of it more like those Serengetti watering holes where zebras and lions come together to have a drink, eyeing each other, but still bonded in a moment of mutual need. SXSW is sorta like a GIANT thing like that — with thousands of laptops and folks bunched together comparing notes, cautiously eyeing each other, chatting pleasantly before drifting off.
